John Legend, Halsey and Richard Marx are among celebrities who took to social media to react after President Donald Trump alleged irregularities in the vote-counting process at the ongoing US election.
Trump, who is seeking re-election against Joe Biden, Democratic presidential candidate, had on Wednesday demanded a halt in vote counting.
He had also claimed victory at the election — even when all the results are yet to be out — while adding that he would approach the supreme court to challenge the result of the polls.
“We did win this election…this is a fraud on the American public,” he had said while addressing his supporters.
According to John Zogby, renowned public opinion pollster and founder of Zogby Strategies, there are over 20 million votes yet to be counted in the 2020 US presidential race.
His claim has, however, generated heated controversies with a number of celebrities airing their views on the issue and the conduct of the election so far.
Commenting on the issue, John Legend said the president’s speech was merely an expression of “grievances.”
“This ‘speech’ is just a random airing of grievances. Happy festivus,” he wrote on Twitter.
On her part, Sara Bareilles, an American singer, also faulted Trump’s speech, describing the vote-counting process as an integral aspect of every election.
“Counting the votes is not stealing the election. Counting the votes is the point of having an election,” she wrote.
