Life under the Hollywood spotlight at Wrexham AFC isn’t all glitz and glamour just ask former executive director Humphrey Ker, who recently stepped aside from his front-office role after fielding bizarre fan demands, including: “Why haven’t you signed Kevin De Bruyne?”
With co-chairmen Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney injecting big ambition and investment into the club, expectations have skyrocketed. From breaking transfer records with the £2 million signing of Sam Smith to luring seasoned pros like Jay Rodriguez, and even exploring moves for Jamie Vardy, the pressure to perform and entertain is relentless.
Ker, now Wrexham’s Community Director, opened up on the Men in Blazers podcast about stepping down from his exec role:
“As the club has grown, my role became less and less necessary… I was getting loads of emails like, ‘Why haven’t you signed Kevin De Bruyne?’ and ‘Can you play Ross Common in a friendly because I’m going there?’”
Now focused on what he loves fan engagement and community Ker continues to ride the Wrexham wave alongside Reynolds and McElhenney, as Phil Parkinson pushes for an unprecedented third straight promotion.
Wrexham fans dream big sometimes a little too big.
