West Ham lost their lead late at Genk to draw 2-2 having themselves come from behind to lead in the dying moments in Belgium in Thursday evening’s Europa League action.
The game was a special occasion for Hammers boss David Moyes as he marked 1,000 matches as a coach, but his side were unable to get over the line to celebrate with a win, though they are now on the verge of qualification for the knockout rounds.
Joseph Paintsil put the hosts ahead early on the night, giving Moyes something to think about with just four minutes on the clock.
It took until the hour mark for the Premier League side to get back on terms with Genk. Benrahma was on hand to fire home a finish on the end of some clever play from Vladimir Coufal had found him.
Benrahma again netted in the 82nd minute to put West Ham ahead and score what at seemed like the time to be the winner, which would have seen them book their place in the post-Christmas rounds of the competition with two games to spare.
But Tomas Soucek suffered the misfortune of turning a cross past former Real Madrid goalkeeper Alphonse Areola and into his own goal just five minutes later to see the points shared.
