Waje teamed up with M.I Abaga, the ace Nigerian rapper, for the hit track in 2010.

The song has continued to enjoy positive reception from music lovers since its release.

While performing at the Macallan Whisky launch in Lagos, the singer revealed her daughter and mother served as her inspiration for the song.

Waje said after attempting to write various lyrics that Abaga rejected, she was challenged to look inward for the person she truly loved.

She also said most songs put out by singers are not always about romance “but people we genuinely love”.

“After my daughter, my mother is the one I love. She is my life. Sometimes, it is not about romance, but the people we genuinely love,” she said.

Waje has established herself as a household name in the Nigerian music industry with several awards and recognition.

She recently won the award for ‘Best Vocal Performance’ at the 2023 Headies.

The 43-year-old singer has three studio albums and one extended play (EP) to her credit which are ‘W.A.J.E’ (2013), ‘Red Velvet’(2018), ‘Heart Season’ (2021) and ‘Waje 2.0’ (2022).
