UBA Customer Sues Bank Over Unauthorized N700,000 Loan

A United Bank for Africa (UBA) customer, Chinedu Nwoke, has taken legal action against the bank at the Federal High Court in Yenagoa over an unauthorized debit allegedly linked to a loan he never applied for.

Nwoke claims that a fraudulent N700,000 COVID-19 loan from NIRSAL Microfinance Bank was obtained using his Bank Verification Number (BVN) without his consent. He further alleges that the commercial bank’s involvement in the transaction led to his bank accounts and BVN being blocked, effectively cutting him off from the banking system.

During the court proceedings on Friday, Nwoke’s counsel, Chinedu Iheanacho, requested an adjournment to allow the court to properly hear the matter.

Presiding over the case, Justice Ayo Emmanuel adjourned the hearing until March 31.

UBA and NIRSAL Microfinance Bank, represented by Mr. Precious John, are the defendants in the suit.
