Lagos State Taskforce officers have stormed several locations in Lagos to enforce the ban on commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, in a sweeping operation that saw 79 bikes impounded across key highways and restricted routes.

The exercise, which commenced at 11 a.m. on Wednesday targeted notorious hotspots, including Berger Suya, Kirikiri Road, 2nd Rainbow Bridge, and Apple Junction inward Festac.

While the operation was largely smooth, tension flared at Berger Suya, where a group of defiant riders attempted to resist the seizure of their motorcycles.

Eyewitnesses described a brief but intense standoff as the aggrieved riders challenged the task force officers.

However, the enforcement team, led by its Chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, swiftly regained control, deploying what was described as “minimal force and tactical superiority” to subdue the resistance.

Despite the momentary confrontation, the crackdown was executed with what officials termed “the highest degree of civility and professionalism.

The Lagos State government has maintained its tough stance on commercial motorcycles, citing security concerns and reckless driving as primary reasons for the ban.

As enforcement continues, Okada riders in restricted zones may find themselves on the losing end of the government’s relentless drive to restore order on Lagos highways.
