The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, has officially declared the beginning of Ramadan 1446, following the sighting of the crescent moon on the evening of February 28.
Announcing the start of the holy month from his palace, the Sultan urged Muslims across Nigeria to dedicate themselves to prayers, charity, and acts of kindness.
“We must encourage acts of charity and support the less privileged so they too can partake in the fasting period,”he said.
President Tinubu’s Ramadan Message
President Bola Tinubu also extended his best wishes to Muslims, calling Ramadan a time for reflection, devotion, and unity.
“It is a season of spiritual rejuvenation, self-discipline, and empathy for the less fortunate. Let us use this period to strengthen our bonds with Allah and one another, fostering unity and peace in our communities,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to pray for the nation’s peace, progress, and security, emphasizing that words and actions should reflect a commitment to harmony and national development.
Call for Prayers Against Insecurity
The President-General of NASFAT, Ayodeji AbdulRauf, urged Muslims to pray for an end to insecurity and hardships in the country.
“Many Muslims across the world, including in Nigeria, are displaced due to conflicts. Ramadan reminds us of our duty to help those in need and uphold the dignity of every human being,” he noted.
He also highlighted that Ramadan is a time for forgiveness, resilience, and community bonding, emphasizing the beauty of iftar gatherings that unite families and neighbors.
