The Premier League has decided to change the referee for their game against Stoke City as the referee in question Kevin Friend is a well known Leicester City fan.In fact he has been regularly at the King Power Stadium cheering on his beloved Foxes.Acknowledging their mistake, the Premier League released a statement which read:
Kevin Friend, initially selected for the game, is from Leicester and has attended matches at Leicester City in a personal capacity.”Taking into account the context of this match it was considered appropriate to change the nominated referee for this match.
The new referee will be Neil Swarbrick, these kinds of facts are not usually considered but given the occasion and pressure that may exist, we have decided to change the referee.”Mike Reilly the head of referee’s decided to appoint Neil Swarbrick to take over the match, while Friend will referee the Newcastle v Manchester City game.Leicester just needs to win three of their remaining five fixtures to become champions.
