Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard has broken his silence on Carney Chukwuemeka’s Chelsea transfer after the midfielder refused to commit his long term future to the club, reports Gidipoint.com.
The 18-year-old Nigeria-born has recently secured a £20 million move to join Thomas Tuchel’s side ahead of the 2022/23 Premier League season after starting just two games in the top flight of English football for Villa.
The talented England U20 was a subject of interest from many clubs in England and the German Bundesliga, but he chose Stamford Bridge.
Gerrard commented on the Chukwuemeka transfer and he outlined how no one is as ‘big as the club or the Academy’ following the decision even as he wished the youngster the best.
He said: “I really enjoyed working with Carney, he’s obviously a big talent, someone who’s got big potential.
“I think the Academy boys and when we came in, we worked ever so hard to work on his development and shape him, try and polish him up, so Chelsea are getting a big talent.
“We wish him well and we move forward. We’ve got a lot of talented players and we’re committed to trying to get as many through, committed to give pathways them to get first-team football.”
