Spurs hopes hit by Wembley defeat

Tottenham’s hopes of reaching the Champions League knockout stages were dealt a blow as they were beaten by Bayer Leverkusen in a dismal display at Wembley.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side failed to create a clear chance and are six games without a win in all competitions.

Christian Eriksen and Kyle Walker pulled efforts narrowly wide after the break and Dele Alli had a penalty appeal turned down for Spurs.
But the hosts struggled to turn plenty of possession into chances and fell behind when Kevin Kampl collected a deflected shot to roll home from eight yards.
The goal earned the Bundesliga side their first Champions League win on English soil having collected just one draw in eight previous attempts.
Spurs pressed late on and saw an Eric Dier free-kick strike the bar, but the result means they are now third in the group, two points behind Leverkusen who are in second.
