Two police officers and five civilians were killed on Thursday when armed robbers attacked four banks in Uromi, Esan north-east LGA of Edo state.
The armed men also attacked a police station in the Auchi area of the state.
Bello Kontong, police public relations officer (PPRO) in Edo, confirmed the attacks to us.
He said the armed robbers used dynamite to attack the banks and police station.
“There are four banks that were attacked — UBA, Zenith Bank, First Bank and Union Bank,” he said.
“We lost two police officers including one from the division that was attacked — a female constable and then a sergeant that is from Auchi in Zenith bank.
“So, the total casualties of human beings are seven — two police personnel and five civilians — including a mad man.”
There have been attacks by gunment across the country in recent times, leading to killings, abductions and destruction of property.
Meanwhile, the attack in Edo comes years after a similar attack in the state.
In 2018, at least 10 persons were killed when a police station and two banks were invaded in Akoko Edo LGA of the state in 2018.
