A research by the National Institute for Legislative Studies titled “Legislators’ Salaries and Allowances: A Cross-Country
Comparison”, dated 7 October 2015 has revealed that Nigeria’s federal lawmakers do not as much as their colleagues in other countries.
The national assembly in Nigeria comprises of the Senate (Red Chamber) and the House of Representatives (Green Chamber). The two chambers have come under fierce criticism and attack from citizens who believe they earn too much as salary and allowances for doing little or next to nothing.
But the research by the National Institute of Legislative Studies (NILS) shows that Nigerian legislators earn the least in a comparison analysis carried out amongst nine countries across North America, Africa, Europe and Asia.
