Wayne Rooney believes Marcus Rashford is eager to reignite his Manchester United career despite a promising loan spell at Aston Villa. The former Red Devils striker shared his thoughts during Amazon Prime’s coverage of Villa’s Champions League clash with PSG.
Rashford joined Villa in January following a dip in form and limited playing time under new United boss Ruben Amorim. Despite an option for Villa to make the deal permanent for £40 million, Rooney insists the forward’s heart still lies with his boyhood club.
“Marcus Rashford wants to play for Manchester United, 100 per cent,” Rooney stated. “He’s a Manchester lad and a fan. The last couple of years have been tough. In an ideal world, he’d love to leave a legacy at United. Whether that happens, we’ll see but I’d love to see it.”
Since moving to Villa Park, Rashford has netted three goals and forced Ollie Watkins out of the central striker role, showing signs of a return to form.
While Villa currently holds the option to buy, Barcelona has reportedly expressed interest, adding intrigue to Rashford’s future as the summer window approaches.
