Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has taken a significant step in his career, transitioning from an acclaimed performer to a film producer. In partnership with Nile Media Entertainment, RMD Productions has secured a global distribution deal for two upcoming films, Radio Voice and Revelations.
This development marks an important milestone, not just for RMD but for Nollywood as a whole, reinforcing the industry’s growing presence in the global film market.
Strategic Partnership for Global Reach
The collaboration with Nile Entertainment, a distribution company known for bringing African stories to international audiences, signals a deliberate effort to elevate Nollywood productions beyond domestic and diaspora markets.
According to Nile Group CEO Moses Babatope, the partnership is based on the ability of these films to deliver compelling narratives that resonate globally while maintaining authentic Nigerian storytelling.
The Films: Radio Voice and Revelations
Radio Voice, scheduled for release on April 11, 2024, is a redemption story about a former sex worker who finds solace and purpose at a struggling radio station while confronting the shadows of her past. RMD describes it as a film that explores second chances without resorting to overused tropes.
Revelations, set for release in August 2025, takes a deeper dive into cross-cultural themes, following a Nigerian-American couple navigating infertility, cultural expectations, and long-held secrets. The film, shot in Nigeria and the United States, has already gained international recognition, winning multiple awards at the Utah International Film Festival. It also features the feature film debut of RMD’s son, Oghenetega Mofe-Damijo, a Towson University graduate.
A Shift in Nollywood’s Global Strategy
Understanding the evolving landscape of film distribution, RMD Productions and Nile Entertainment have adopted a calculated release strategy. Radio Voice will debut in West African cinemas before expanding to international markets, while Revelations will first premiere at a major film festival before its commercial release.
This approach underscores a broader movement in Nollywood—one that prioritizes not just film production, but also strategic distribution, global competitiveness, and high production standards. RMD’s transition into production reflects an industry veteran leveraging decades of experience to push Nollywood further onto the world stage.
As the industry continues to evolve, partnerships like these will be crucial in positioning Nollywood as a formidable player in the global entertainment market.
