Former Real Madrid player Predrag Mijatovic has criticized Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. for Real Madrid’s disappointing 3-0 loss to Arsenal in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday.
Mijatovic pointed to the lack of chemistry between the two star attackers, despite Mbappe’s impressive individual performances since his arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu. The French striker has scored 33 goals in all competitions, but Mijatovic believes the competition for supremacy between him and Vinicius has hindered both players’ ability to perform at their best together.
“Since Mbappe’s arrival, Vinicius has been a little afraid to show who’s better. The goal seems to be to convince Real fans who’s the best. And that’s led to him not performing as expected this season. That’s been very noticeable,” Mijatovic explained (h/t BILD).
Real Madrid now faces a challenging task ahead, needing a major turnaround in the second leg at the Bernabeu next Tuesday. Before that, they will play against Alaves on Sunday, April 13, aiming to close the four-point gap to league leaders Barcelona in La Liga.
