Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has dismissed claims that he is seeking a free ticket or special treatment ahead of the 2027 election.
Reacting through his media aide, Ibrahim Umar, Obi made it clear that he remains committed to democracy and fair competition, contrary to recent reports.
The clarification comes after Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, denied that the party was considering fielding Obi, Abia State Governor Alex Otti, and some 2023 candidates in the next election.
His response follows a conflicting claim by LP factional spokesperson, Abayomi Arabambi, who earlier suggested that Obi would be the party’s presidential flagbearer in 2027 to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid.
However, dismissing speculations about Obi’s reaction to the ‘no automatic ticket’ stance, Umar stated:
🗣️ “Peter Obi has never sought a free ticket or special treatment. He believes in a level playing field where individuals can compete fairly. His focus remains on good governance, economic growth, and social justice.”
Obi’s camp urged supporters and Nigerians to ignore distractions and focus on building a better future for the country.
