Porto and Roma played a friendly match on Wednesday evening as part of their respective pre-season plans, however, the match ended in a rather unceremonious manner as Pepe caused a brawl with a wild challenge on Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
In the 64th minute of play, Pepe launched into a wild challenge on the Armenian forward, targeting his right ankle as well as hitting the forward’s chest hard with his own elbow.
Mkhitaryan was up to remonstrate with the Portuguese defender almost instantly, even going as far as to kick him in the face during the resulting melee.
Sergio Conceicao, the Porto coach, jumped onto the pitch and was involved in a fracas with a Roma player. While Jose Mourinho is no stranger to scenes like these, he rather unusually stayed in his own technical area, watching the various factions do battle.
