Odion Ighalo, former Super Eagles striker, has revealed that he has been paying his tithe consistently since 2005, and has never missed a payment.
The 35-year-old footballer, who currently plays for Al-Wehda, spoke in a recent interview with Rash4Christ.
According to him, his commitment to tithing is rooted in his faith and the teachings of his pastor when he was playing for Julius Berger.
The striker recalled that his first salary in 2005 was N15,000, and he has been paying his tithe ever since.
Ighalo, however, admitted that he initially struggled with paying his tithe when he started earning a huge income after moving to China.
He revealed that the devil tempted him to question the need to pay such a large amount to the church.
The striker said however after praying, he received instruction from God to continue paying his tithe, regardless of the amount.
My first salary I got when I was playing back in Julius Berger in 2005, I was 16 years old at the time, was N15,000. I know my pastor back then taught me about tithing,” he said.
I started paying my tithe in 2005 and till today, I have not missed my tithe. The devil wanted to play with me, when I went to China and I was earning big money, and I was like would I give this huge amount to church or pastor?
The devil was playing with my mind. I thought about it for like… I did not send the money and all that. But I prayed one day and God said do not change the weighing formula. That if you can be faithful with little, you will be faithful with any amount that comes with you.
Like I am now, I do not care how much I am going to earn in life today, my ten percent is for God. I pay tithe. I know some people say I am giving it to a pastor, it is not my problem. I do according to the word of God.
Whatever that pastor does with it, it’s between him and God. He has to explain to God and all that. I pay my tithe, I sow my seed, I help the less privileged, the poor and all that. Since 2005 till today, I have not missed my tithe and it has been working for me.
That is why you see I told you that I am not boasting but I do not see any challenges in my life that will come, that I would not get through it.
