The Ogun state chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Joint Campus Committee, NANS/JCC has given the State Police
Command a 48-hour ultimatum to arrest and prosecute two of its officers, who are accused of brutalizing a student in Abeokuta, the
state capital.
The group also demanded that a compensation of N50million should be paid to the victim, Mr. Taiwo Peter and a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU, be signed between the State Police Commissioner and the leadership of the Union in the state to give assurance of cooperation between them.
The student union threatened that it will mobilize students across the state to stage a powerful protest, which has never been witnessed in the recent times if the police fail to comply.
It would be recalled that a HND 1 Computer Science student of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, MAPOLY, Ojere, Abeokuta, Taiwo Peter was last week Thursday chased to his room and severely brutalized by the policemen attached to Adigbe Police station, Abeokuta.
The two accused police officers are: ASP Emmanuel Ogundaisi and CPL Ajayi Samuel. According to PmNews.
“As we write this petition, the lad, Taiwo Peter cannot speak intelligently anymore as we suspect that the vicious blows to his head
might have reconfigured the brains operation. He cannot ear, sit, stand, sleep or think properly, he has suffered a horrific
psychological trauma capable of destroying his psychological balance,” the statement read.
It would be recalled that a similar incident occurred in August when the police were given a shoot-at-sight order on cultists. Some policemen attached to the same Adigbe Police station shot life bullet at some students who were not cultists and brutalized them with iron clubs.
The student union frowned at the police reaction to their letter after the incident but students warned that if the police refuse to take this incident seriously, they will be forced to go for a showdown with them.
