Popular Nigerian comedian and activist Mr Macaroni has sparked controversy after refusing to acknowledge Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at a public event. The incident led to social media backlash, with critics accusing him of trying to embarrass the governor deliberately.
A Twitter user condemned the alleged snub, prompting Mr Macaroni to respond in Yoruba, stating he had no interest in engaging with the governor and dismissing his critics with a sarcastic “beautiful prayer.”
Mr Macaroni’s Reaction to the Backlash
The comedian later clarified his stance, saying he holds no grudges against those who choose to associate with Sanwo-Olu but insists he will not do the same.
🗣 “No part of me wishes to fraternize with Governor Sanwo-Olu. I don’t have anything against anyone who associates with him. So why won’t you people leave me alone?”
After continued criticism, Mr Macaroni doubled down on his position, vowing never to greet the governor.
🗣 “Since you people won’t stop attacking me because I didn’t greet Governor Sanwo-Olu, next time I see him, I still won’t greet him. And this time, even if he calls me, I won’t answer. You people will cry today, tomorrow, and forever!”
A History of Activism
Mr Macaroni, known for his vocal stance on governance and human rights, has been a consistent critic of the Nigerian government—especially following the #EndSARS protests in 2020, where he played a key role in advocating for justice.
His latest statements reaffirm his position as an outspoken activist unwilling to engage with political figures he disagrees with, despite public pressure.
