Former Real Madrid striker Fernando Morientes has suggested that Sergio Ramos could find a surprising new home at Wrexham, as the iconic defender eyes a return to European football.
Speaking to Bet365, Morientes floated the idea of the 39-year-old linking up with the Hollywood-backed Welsh club, describing it as the kind of “personal experience” Ramos might value in the twilight of his career.
“Could we see Sergio Ramos at Wrexham?” Morientes said. “He wanted to live a different experience… if that’s the case with Wrexham too, it’ll probably be a good thing.”
Ramos, who joined Monterrey in February, has already made an impact in Liga MX, scoring three goals in six appearances. However, reports suggest he may be open to a move when the summer transfer window opens.
The former Real Madrid and PSG star previously returned to Sevilla for sentimental reasons but has shown a willingness to explore new chapters far from the usual pressure of elite European football. According to Morientes, Wrexham could offer just that especially with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney offering a unique project and lifestyle in North Wales.
While the speculation may seem unlikely, Ramos would represent Wrexham’s first global footballing icon, and with the club pushing for a spot in the Championship, it might not be as far-fetched as it seems.
