Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mercy Aigbe Adeoti has revealed that some of her family members initially questioned her decision to remarry, particularly because of her age.
The actress made headlines in 2022 when she publicly confirmed her relationship with movie marketer Kazim Adeoti, who has four children from a previous marriage. Their union sparked controversy, and Mercy later converted to Islam, adopting the name Hajia Minnah.
Family’s Reaction to Her Remarriage
Speaking on Bimpe Akintunde’s talk show, Iriri Mi, Mercy disclosed that while the public backlash was intense, even some family members were skeptical about her choice to remarry. However, she remained firm in her decision.
“A lot of people, even some family members, asked me, ‘You’re close to 50 years old, what are you looking for?’ But I believe everyone knows what they want. I know what I saw, and I know what I wanted.”
She emphasized that marriage was always a priority for her:
“I love love, actually. I love to have a crown (husband) on my head and to be married. Maybe if I was still in my baby daddy’s house, I wouldn’t be known as Mercy Aigbe.”
Addressing Public Criticism
Mercy also dismissed the negative comments about her marriage, calling them “just noise.” She particularly fired back at critics who claimed she had turned her husband into a “dummy.”
“That’s just noise. Look closely at those talking—how is their life? People only talk when you’re doing something good. If you’re not known, you can’t be their topic. You have to be at the top to be a topic.”
Reflecting on her journey, she admitted she never imagined her life turning out this way but remains unfazed by critics.
Despite the controversies, Mercy Aigbe continues to thrive in the entertainment industry, balancing her career and personal life with confidence.
