McGregor’s horrific leg break may have ended his career

It is difficult to predict where Conor McGregor’s career will go from here after suffering defeat against Dustin Poirier in the first round of the third fight between the pair.

While ‘The Diamond’ will have his shot at the world title against Charles Oliveira, the Irishman already seems interested in a fourth bout against the American:

McGregor roared after the referee ruled Poirier’s victory by technical knockout, but what is certain is that he faces a lengthy spell away from MMA, after suffering a horrific leg break during the fight.

“I wonder if he will ever fight again after this, it’s terrible,” Jon Jones said on social media.

He broke it on one of the checks, at the start of the fight and it broke on one blow, for sure,” Poirier said.

If McGregor ends up returning to action once he recovers, he will hardly be close to the title as he will fall in the lightweight ranking, where he is now fifth despite not winning a fight in this category since 2016. His last triumph was against Donald Cerrone in the welterweight.
