Paris Saint-Germain currently boast one of the greatest attacking trios in the world with Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and new summer arrival Lionel Messi.
Yet despite their superstar names, the trio doesn’t appear to be working as well as coach Mauricio Pochettino may have hoped.
In three games so far this season, Messi has featured alongside his Brazilian and French counterparts, and he is yet to get his name on the scoresheet or provide a standout performance.
In the same three games, Mbappe has not scored either. He has provided two assists, however both of those assists have come from a wide position, where the Frenchman feels most comfortable, but a position that he must sacrifice when he plays alongside both Messi and Neymar.
Of course, the trio together must be given time to adapt and at present they haven’t had much of that.
But with their first proper test coming in the form of current Premier League champions Manchester City on Tuesday, the trio must learn to perform together sooner rather than later.
A few cracks have already been seen amongst the squad, with Mbappe being the first to criticise his teammates.
In PSG’s 2-0 victory over Montpellier, Mbappe was caught on the sidelines blasting Neymar for not passing to him.
Only time will tell whether this was a comment in the heat of the moment or something that has built up over time.
Paris Saint-Germain will host Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, September 28, on Matchday 2 of the Champions League.
