Having officially joined Brighton and Hove Albion from Getafe for 18 million euros, Marc Cucurella has said his goodbyes on social media, although he’d have liked to have done so at the Coliseum.
The Catalan wide man spent two years at Getafe, initially on loan from Barcelona, and it was while playing there that he received his first Spain cap.
“Today my time at Getafe comes to an end,” he wrote on Instagram after his transfer was completed.
“To all the Azulones fans, I’m grateful for all the kindness and support you have shown me since day one. I have been very happy as one of you.
“It’s been two intense years, where we’ve enjoyed European nights, where I’ve seen the birth of my two children and where I’ve made my Spain debut.
“I leave with a bittersweet feeling because I couldn’t say goodbye to the fans at the Coliseum. Wherever I am, I’ll be an Azulon.”
With the 23-year-old officially gone and already in Sussex, Getafe are now in the process of seeking a replacement and finding someone to compete with Vitolo, Jakub Jankto and Mathias Olivera.
Cucurella had become a key player for the club, playing 86 games, scoring four goals and proving eight assists. When Jose Bordalas was head coach, he was used mainly as a left midfielder in a 4-4-2 but he can operate anywhere on the left flank.
