Manchester United could have a £200 million transfer budget this summer, but the full amount hinges on one major condition.
The Red Devils made sweeping changes last season, overhauling their squad and backroom staff in a bid to support former manager Erik ten Hag. Despite those efforts, Ten Hag was sacked after a disappointing campaign and replaced by Ruben Amorim, who is now keen to build his own team.
Concerns have lingered about United’s financial power heading into the summer, but a report by The Sun suggests that Amorim will have access to around £200 million for transfers. However, that sum is not guaranteed.
To unlock the full budget, Manchester United will need to make several player sales, even if it means accepting lower transfer fees. Players likely to be offloaded include Marcus Rashford, Antony, Jadon Sancho, Christian Eriksen, and Casemiro. One of Kobbie Mainoo or Alejandro Garnacho might also be sacrificed.
In addition to selling players, United must secure a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League, most likely by winning the Europa League. That success would help attract top-tier talent and support Amorim’s rebuild plans at Old Trafford.
