Atalanta qualified for the round of 16 in the Europa League by beating Olympiacos, aided by two goals from Ruslan Malinovskyi, who celebrated his goals by unveiling an anti-war vest in support of his native Ukraine.
In what has been a common occurrence throughout Thursday’s sporting events, the subject of the Russian invasion of Ukraine was brought up.
Malinovskyi lifted his Atalanta shirt to showcase a white vest that had the words ‘No War Ukraine’ on it.
It was a celebration that encouraged the conflict to stop, although that looks far from likely at this precise moment.
This followed a similar move made by Roman Yaremchuk on Wednesday evening when he removed his Benfica shirt to showcase a shirt with a Ukrainian symbol printed on it.
Ukraine under attack right NOW.
Please, spread the word and pray for our country! 🙏🏻 pic.twitter.com/i0WwSVIPJ8— Ruslan Malinovskyi (@malinovskyi18) February 24, 2022
