Liverpool’s Sadio Mane to serve three-match ban after FA turn down Anfield side’s appeal to reduce suspension

Liverpool’s appeal to reduce Sadio Mane’s three-game suspension following his red card against Manchester City has been upheld by the FA.

The Senegalese international was given a straight red by referee Jon Moss in the first half against City after Mane raised his foot into Ederson’s face while challenging for the ball, leaving the Brazilian requiring stitches.
The ban means that Mane will miss Premier League games against Burnley and Leicester, as well as the Carabao Cup fixture at the King Power Stadium.

A statement from the FA on Tuesday read: ‘Sadio Mane’s three-match suspension, which was effective immediately, remains in place after his claim of excessive punishment was rejected following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.
‘The Liverpool forward was dismissed for serious foul play during the game against Manchester City on Saturday [9 September 2017].’
In the immediate aftermath of the incident, City’s medical staff spent eight minutes treating Ederson before he left the field in a neck brace and using an oxygen bag.
However, Liverpool launched an appeal to the FA as they believed that a three-game suspension did not reflect the incident on Saturday
