Lineker disputes odd Piers Morgan claim that David Beckham was overrated

Piers Morgan’s latest outburst has seen David Beckham become his victim, with the outspoken presented taking aim at the ex-England international.

Beckham is widely agreed to be one of England’s greatest-ever footballers, but the 56-year-old broadcaster isn’t entirely convinced.

In an odd tweet that seemed to take aim at the former Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain star for no real reason, Morgan wrote: “Great to watch a Beckham who can actually play football…#Superbowl,” making reference to Odell Beckham Jr. after he helped the LA Rams to win the Superbowl.

Gary Lineker, who often takes the bait laid out by Morgan, responded.

“You might dislike him, for whatever reason, but David Beckham was a great footballer,” the former England and Barcelona striker tweeted. “One of our finest.”

Morgan, as he tends to, had a response ready for Lineker. Using a typically charismatic attempt at wit.

“You might want to suck up to him, for whatever reason,” copying the tone and wording of Lineker‘s original response, “but Beckham was the most overrated player in history. Wouldn’t have got onto the Arsenal Invincibles bench.”

Lineker‘s response was simple and effective, dismissing Morgan‘s opinion out of hand.

Six Premier Leagues, two FA Cups, one Champions League, one La Liga, one Ligue 1. Balon [sic] d’Or runner up,” he wrote, listing Beckham‘s fine achievements. “115 caps for England, 59 as captain”
