The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Moshood Jimoh, has confirmed that security details for the Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, have been restored.
What Happened?
Speaking at a press briefing in Ikeja on Thursday, Jimoh explained that the withdrawal of Meranda’s security aides was for audit purposes, dismissing claims of ulterior motives.
However, earlier reports indicated that all security personnel attached to Meranda and the Assembly were withdrawn, leaving her vulnerable. In contrast, the security details of ousted Speaker Mudashiru Obasa were fully reinstated.
Concerns Over Security
A source close to Meranda had raised concerns about her safety, while her spokesperson, Ganzallo Victor, expressed confusion over the decision, stating:
“We don’t know why the authorities have done that, but all the police officers and other security details attached to her were withdrawn. She was on her own at the moment.”
