Ashraf, son of Lamido Sanusi, the former Emir of Kano, has argued that the lady who was recently arrested for allegedly defrauding a German man of $2.2 million did nothing illegal.
On Wednesday, Cynthia Atuonah, a 21-year-old lady, was arrested by Lagos police for duping her German lover of $2,220,000 after promising to marry him.
The police said they were working to recover the money, adding that Atuonah will face charges in court after the investigation.
Following her arrest, Sanusi took to Instagram to make a case for the lady.
According to Ashraf, what Atuonah did was wrong, but not illegal.
He said there are gaps in the law when it comes to addressing immoral behavior.
Ashraf argued that once the money was given willingly, it cannot be legally reversed.
He also said Atuonah “cannot be arrested for promising to marry someone and not fulfilling it.”
“Technically she didn’t do anything illegal right? Since he sent her money willingly not as payment for a good or service. She’s not meant to be arrested,” he said.
“What she did was bad, but not illegal. That’s why they can’t catch that tinder guy. All the women gave him willingly.
“There’s not always a law for immortality. Again what she did was wrong, but they’re not legally allowed to arrest her because she promised to marry someone and didn’t do it.
“And they’re not allowed to reverse the money as it was given willingly even though the person was expecting something else.”
