La Liga’s Pichichi Race Is Heating Up as Lewandowski, Mbappe Lead the Charge

The 2024–25 La Liga season is shaping up to be a thrilling contest not just for titles, but for personal glory. The battle for the prestigious Pichichi Trophy, awarded to the league’s top goal scorer, is intensifying with each passing matchday, and familiar names are once again at the center of the storm.

Leading the way is Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski, who has been on a scoring rampage. With 25 goals already this season, the Polish striker is proving that age is just a number. After scoring 23 goals in his debut La Liga season and 19 last year, Lewandowski is now on course to surpass both tallies in what could be his most prolific campaign in Spain yet.

Hot on his heels is Real Madrid’s blockbuster signing, Kylian Mbappe. The French forward, finally donning the white of Los Blancos, has made an explosive start to life in La Liga. With 22 goals to his name, the six-time Ligue 1 Golden Boot winner is showing the Spanish crowd exactly why he’s one of the most feared forwards in world football.

Further down the list, Osasuna’s Ante Budimir is quietly having another stellar season. The Croatian striker, who netted 17 times last campaign, already has 16 goals under his belt. Though not always in the headlines, Budimir has become a crucial part of Osasuna’s attacking setup and continues to deliver when called upon.

Athletic Bilbao’s Oihan Sancet has taken a major leap forward, contributing 15 goals so far. The Spanish midfielder has matured into a consistent threat in front of goal and is enjoying his finest season to date under Ernesto Valverde.

Barcelona winger Raphinha, who rejected summer offers from Chelsea and the Saudi Pro League to stay at Camp Nou, is repaying the club’s faith. With 13 goals this season, he’s flourishing under new manager Hansi Flick, who has unlocked a more athletic, goal-minded version of the Brazilian.

Also on 13 goals is Villarreal’s Ayoze Pérez. The former Leicester City man has found his rhythm in La Liga, becoming a key figure in the Yellow Submarine’s front line. Meanwhile, Atlético Madrid’s Julian Alvarez, who joined from Manchester City in a high-profile move, is quickly establishing himself as a core player for Diego Simeone with 12 goals in his debut campaign.

Sevilla’s Dodi Lukebakio continues to impress despite the club’s inconsistencies. The Belgian forward has struck 11 times this season, offering both power and pace in Sevilla’s attack. He’s joined on the 11-goal mark by veteran striker Kike García of Alavés and Alexander Sørloth, who moved to Atlético Madrid after netting 23 goals for Villarreal last season.

Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. has also scored 11 goals this term. The Brazilian winger is stepping up in the post-Benzema era, providing goals, assists, and relentless energy on the flank, helping Madrid stay sharp both domestically and in Europe.

Espanyol’s Javi Puado and Villarreal’s breakout French striker Thierno Barry have both hit double digits with 10 goals apiece. Barry, who arrived from Basel, has been a surprise package—emerging as one of the league’s top young forwards.

Barcelona’s Ferran Torres is showing a return to form with 9 goals, rekindling belief in his finishing prowess. Meanwhile, Antoine Griezmann is thriving again at Atlético Madrid, contributing 8 goals and forming a promising partnership with Alvarez.

Midfielders like Giovani Lo Celso of Real Betis and Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid have chipped in with 7 goals each. Bellingham, after a scorching debut campaign in Spain, has had a slightly quieter second season but is showing signs of reigniting his scoring touch.

Las Palmas’ Sandro Ramirez and Barcelona’s Dani Olmo have also found the net 7 times each, playing pivotal roles for their respective teams.

And finally, making waves at just 17 years old is Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal. With 6 goals already, the La Masia graduate continues to amaze with his creativity and composure, proving he’s not just one for the future he’s one for now.

As the season nears its climax, the Pichichi race is far from over. With every match, the leaderboard shifts, and with so much talent in the mix, it’s anyone’s guess who’ll finish top when the dust settles in May.
