Messi’s Emotional Bond with Barcelona

Messi and Neymar formed a formidable partnership at Barcelona between 2013 and 2017, winning multiple trophies before Neymar made a world-record move to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). In 2021, Messi followed his former teammate to the French capital after Barcelona failed to renew his contract due to financial constraints.

However, in 2023, both players parted ways with PSG. Messi opted for a new adventure in Major League Soccer (MLS)with Inter Miami, while Neymar made a lucrative move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.

Now, speculation is mounting that both superstars could make sensational returns to Camp Nou—with Messi potentially arriving on a short-term deal, while Neymar, who recently joined his boyhood club Santos on a six-month loan, is linked with a summer move back to Europe.

Tebas’ Verdict: Messi Could Return, Neymar Won’t

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Javier Tebas expressed confidence that Messi could find his way back to Barcelona, either as a player or in another role.

“I think Messi wants to go back to Barcelona. He spent lots of years there. I am quite sure Messi will come back. Maybe as a player, but I can see him returning in another capacity as well.”

Tebas highlighted Messi’s deep connection with the club, stating:

“Messi and Barcelona go hand in hand. His brand, and Barcelona’s brand, are in many ways one and the same. He is in love with the club.”

However, when asked about Neymar, Tebas was far less optimistic:

“Neymar is a different story. I don’t think he will ever return to Barcelona. I am quite sure of that.”

What’s Next for Barcelona?

While Barcelona fans dream of Messi’s potential return, Hansi Flick’s squad remains focused on the present. The Blaugrana are currently leading La Liga and will be aiming to maintain their title charge when they face Real Sociedadon Sunday.

For now, Messi’s future at Inter Miami and Neymar’s uncertain European prospects will keep the rumor mill buzzing—but according to Tebas, only one of them might wear the Barcelona colors again.
