Kamaru Usman is still pushing for a September boxing match against Canelo Alvarez and is convinced that it will happen.
The UFC star still needs to receive approval from Dana White, like Conor McGregor was given for his 2017 fight against Floyd Mayweather, but Usman believes the UFC president will support his desire to take on Canelo in a boxing ring.
“Those conversations are still to be had, but, like I’ve said, this fight will be the greatest and the biggest fight ever in the history of combat sports,” Usman told BT Sports when asked about the contractual aspect of the fight and UFC’s involvement.
“That’s because we’ve got to have the biggest and the baddest promoter ever in the history of combat sports, Dana White, behind us.”
"It's only right that me and Canelo give the world a show!"@Usman84kg is adamant that he wants to face Canelo Alvarez in September and that he can beat boxing's P4P #1!

When is Kamaru Usman vs Canelo Alvarez?
Although the fight between Kamaru Usman and Canelo Alvarez isn’t confirmed yet, the UFC fighter believes it will take place and has repeated on multiple occasions that it could happen in September, around Mexican Independence Day on September 16.
“In September, at Mexican Independence Day, I think it’s only right for me and Canelo to give the world a show, give the world the entertainment they so desire,” Usman added.
“You know, I’ve said it before, [beating him] can’t be done until someone does do it.
“I respect him, he’s a great champion, he’s the pound-for-pound best. I have to show him that respect but he needs to show me that respect as well.
“He said this week that he’s interested in it. So, let’s make it happen if his camp is interested and we’re interested.
Never before have the best pound-for-pound of each sport gotten together like this.
“It’s not just Floyd [Mayweather] fighting the Paul brothers. We’re at the same size, so it only makes sense.”
