Paul Pogba’s Juventus return has hit its first setback. The French midfielder could now be facing two months on the sidelines as he is set to go under the knife.
Having returned from Manchester United on a free transfer just this summer, Pogba is already out of action for the Serie A side.
The midfielder pulled up in training with knee pain, and it has now become apparent that he suffered damage to the lateral meniscus in his right knee, meaning he will undergo surgery.
“Paul Pogba has undergone radiological tests that revealed an injury to the lateral meniscus of his right knee,” read a statement published by Juventus.
“He will consult with specialists, and will not travel to Dallas in order to continue his treatment.”
Pogba played 45 minutes in his first pre-season match, impressing against Chivas and even getting himself on the scoresheet.
Massimiliano Allegri was left satisfied with the midfielder’s performance, acknowledging as much post-match.
What games will Pogba miss?
Pogba‘s pre-season is over, meaning he’ll miss Juventus‘ games against both Barcelona and Real Madrid.
La Gazzetta dello Sport have speculated that he could also miss a number of Serie A matches once the 2022/23 season is underway, including those against Sassuolo, Sampdoria, Roma, Spezia, Fiorentina, Salernitana, and Monza.
Pogba could also miss the first two Champions League matches of the season, which as scheduled to be played on September 6/7 and September 13/14.
He is due back at the end of September or the beginning of October.
