U.S. President Joe Biden lamented Russia’s attack on Ukraine and said Vladimir Putin, whom he called a “criminal,” will face the consequences for the war he chose.
“Putin is the aggressor. Putin chose this war. And now he and his country will face the consequences.”, Biden said.
The United States will defend every inch of NATO territory with the full force of the American power.”

At a White House press conference, Biden said he has no plans to talk to Putin, adding that “America stands up to bullies,” and “we stand up for freedom.”
“I have no idea what [Putin] is threatening. I will do everything in my power to limit the pain the American people are facing at the gas pump. We are taking steps to defend our NATO allies,” Biden added. “Additional US forces will be deployed to Germany.”

Biden rules out engaging U.S. forces in conflict with Russia in Ukraine
U.S. President told reporters Putin should be stopped as soon as possible before he tries to invade a NATO allied country.
“Our forces will not be engaged in a conflict with Russia in Ukraine,” Biden said. “This was never about genuine security concerns – it was about naked aggression…about Putin’s desire for empire, by any means necessary.”
“If (Putin) does move into NATO countries, [the United States] will be involved. (Putin) has much larger ambitions that Ukraine… he wants to re-establish the former Soviet Union. The sanctions we impose exceed SWIFT… they are profound sanctions.”

Biden concluded by saying, “There is a complete rupture right now in U.S.-Russia relations.”
Biden described the sanctions as severe.
The president also met with his national security team on Thursday morning in the Situation Room as he looked to flesh out U.S. moves in the rapidly escalating crisis.
While Biden described the sanctions as severe, Ukrainian officials urged the U.S. and West to go further and cut the Russians from the SWIFT financial system.
