Italy fans whistle at Donnarumma following departure from AC Milan to PSG

Gianluigi Donnarumma suffered a lot during Italy’s 2-1 defeat to Spain as the Azzurri’s fans whistled at the talented goalkeeper on his return to the Stadio San Siro, following his departure from AC Milan to Paris Saint-Germain, where he is competing with Keylor Navas for the No.1 shirt.

The Italian shot-stopper decided against extending his contract with the Rossoneri last summer and joined the Ligue 1 side on a free transfer, something that the Milan fans did not take well.

In just a few months, Donnarumma, who was Italy’s hero at the 2020 European Championship, has become persona non grata in Milan.

Following the loss to La Roja, Italy boss Roberto Mancini expressed his frustration with fans who decided to whistle his player during an Azzurri game.

“Donnarumma played for Italy and it was not a club game,” said Mancini.

This situation could have been put aside for one night and [he could have been] whistled [at] in a possible PSG vs Milan [match]. Italy are Italy and come above all.”

Donnarumma conceded two goals from Ferran Torres and looked nervous throughout the game, with the ball slipping from his hands after a Marcos Alonso strike and hitting the post before Leonardo Bonucci cleared the ball off the line.
