Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced that users will now be able to purchase products and track orders via direct messages on Instagram in the United States.
The platform has carved out a niche in the e-commerce market, and Zuckerberg says that the new feature, called ‘payments in chat’, will benefit users and small businesses.
“You can now buy products from small businesses and track your order in chat on Instagram in the U.S.,” Zuckerberg said in the announcement post. “Pay with Meta Pay and checkout in a few taps.”

Here’s how to make purchases via direct messages
Users can start by sending a direct message to qualified business they’re interested in buying from.
In the same chat, they’ll then be able to pay, track their order and ask the business follow-up questions.
Meta says that users already chat about their orders with businesses via DMs on Instagram before purchasing, but the new feature will now allow them to pay the sellers directly without leaving the thread.
