The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) National Commissioner on Voter Education Festus Okoye told Channels Television that only two national commissioners have arrived in Abuja and that they are still awaiting the arrival of the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Adamawa Hudu Ari.

INEC had summoned all involved in the Adamawa supplementary governorship election to report to the headquarters for it to commence an investigation into the controversial announcement of the governorship election results on Saturday.

After the announcement of the results by the Resident Electoral Commissioner, a mob allegedly stripped naked, a National Commissioner posted to Adamawa State for the election exercise.

According to Mr Okoye, he was treated like a common criminal for doing his job.

Tuesday’s meeting is expected to unravel the circumstances behind the controversial announcement of the results of the Adamawa supplementary governorship election, which INEC has declared, null, void, and of no effect.

Mr Yunusa Ari who was the REC for the gubernatorial election in Adamawa State, stirred controversy on Sunday morning when he announced the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Aisha ‘Binani’ Dahiru as the winner of the polls.

Asides from the announcement being an usurpation of the Returning Officer’s office, Barr Ari doubly-erred in that he announced the results of an election whose collation process had not been concluded, and this caused tension within the state, and stirred great debate across the nation, with observers calling what transpired in Adamawa State, a shame.
