Zlatan Ibrahimovic will not be available for Sweden’s 2022 World Cup playoff clash in March due to accumulation of yellow cards, following his unsportsmanlike should barge into Cesar Azpilicueta against Spain.
The TV cameras didn’t catch the moment when the AC Milan striker was booked, but Ibrahimovic has received his second yellow card in the group stage and as a result he will miss out on Sweden’s next match.
Shove in the back
The incident took place with just a couple of minutes to go, as Ibrahimovic shoved the Chelsea defender in the back during a corner kick.
Initially it seemed as though the Sweden striker had avoided the yellow card, but according to UEFA’s website, Zlatan was penalised for his action.
“Everything is alright here,” Azpilicueta posted on Twitter, where he shared a GIF of the incident after Spain’s 1-0 win at the Estadio de la Cartuja.
Ibrahimovic came off the bench in the 73rd minute of the game but failed to help Sweden secure a win that would see them clinch direct qualification to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Alvaro Morata netted the winner in the 86th minute as La Roja sealed Group B’s top spot, with Sweden finishing second and securing a spot in the playoffs.
