Hungary pulled off one of the shock results of this year’s Nations League thanks to a 4-0 victory over England in Wolverhampton.

The result sees the Magyarok take over top spot in Group A3 thanks to Italy’s defeat to Germany, but all the headlines will be about England’s biggest home defeat since 1928.

It all kicked off in the 16th minute when Harry Kane failed to clear a Hungary freekick out of danger, which allowed Roland Sallai to thrash his strike into the top left corner.

The scoreline remained 1-0 heading into half-time, but rather than an England response after the break, it was Hungary who added to their advantage in the 70th minute.

Out of nothing, Kalvin Philips failed to control a ball over the top, with Martin Adam eventually controlling it. His diagonal pass found Sallai, who poked home from 10 yards out.

It was soon 3-0 when Zsolt Nagy teed up from the edge of the box, while John Stones was shown a second yellow minutes later to add further insult to what was a poor night for the home side.

Unfortunately for Gareth Southgate’s men, the humiliation didn’t stop there as Daniel Gazdag added a fourth with minutes remaining to give Hungary their first win on English soil since a famous 6-3 win back in 1953.
