Despite bagging 41 goals, Robert Lewandowski has lost out to Erling Haaland as Bundesliga Player of the Season.
The Polish No.9 won the title with Bayern Munich and broke Gerd Muller‘s record for number of goals scored in a single season, which has stood since 1971/72. But his 41 goals in 29 appearances weren’t enough.
Instead, Haaland took the prize, helped by his 27 goals in 28 games.
An honour to be awarded the Bundesliga Player of the Season,” the Norwegian tweeted. “An achievement not just for me but the whole Borussia Dortmund family. We won this award together!”
Haaland received 50 percent of the votes, taking the prize from Lewandowski, who had won it in 2019/20.
