Pep Guardiola has claimed that the English public want Liverpool to win the Premier League over Manchester City.
The Catalan coach’s Manchester City side moved three points clear of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table with victory over Newcastle United on Sunday, and he put further pressure on the Reds at full time.
“Everyone in this country supports Liverpool… the media and everyone,” Guardiola told beIN Sports.
“Of course, because Liverpool have an incredible history in European competition.
“Not in the Premier League, because they have won one in 30 years, but it is not a problem at all.”
The Manchester City coach added that this does not bother him at all.
“But I don’t care,” he stated.
“They have more supporters around the world and in England more support Liverpool than us.”
Manchester City’s target
Guardiola went on to state what his City side need in order to win the Premier League.
“We need to do nine points or maybe six right now, it depends what happens in the next two games in terms of goal difference, but now Wednesday is the real, real final for us [away at Wolverhampton Wanderers],” he noted.
We are going to try to win there.
“Our destiny is in our hands and this is important. We have to look at ourselves. With one point or three points, nothing’s changed. We have to do it.”
