Properties and goods said to be worth millions of naira have been destroyed at the popular Ogbe-Ogonogo market in Asaba, the Delta state capital.
Although the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, many of the traders resorted to self-help in a bid to salvage their goods.
Other residents and passers-by also besieged the scene of the inferno, defying physical distancing guideline, as they lamented the damage done by the fire.
Some of them could not hold back their anger over the absence of the state fire service as the fire raged, but a government official was on the ground to calm the aggrieved traders.
