Eriksen to his teammates: How are you? I think you’re worse than me

Christian Eriksen, who collapsed on the pitch against Finland on Saturday, remains in hospital but has spoken with his teammates and appears in good spirits.

In a press-conference on Sunday, the Denmark coach revealed that the team had spoken with Eriksen and that he appeared his usual and selfless self.

“We spoke with him this morning via videocall and we saw his smile on the screen,” said Kasper Hjulmand.

“Then he said ‘How are you all? I think you are worse than I am. I feel like going out to train right now’.

“[He always] thinks about others before himself. He wants us to keep playing so that’s what we’ll do. We’ll do it for Christian.”

The aim now for Denmark is to “get back to normal” and they will be training again on Monday, but the coach knows it won’t be easy. The whole group are even receiving psychological help.

Christian is in good hands,” the coach said.

“Our job is to liven the players’ spirits and get them ready for Thursday [against Belgium].”

Hjulmand also singled out Simon Kjaer for his reaction as he ran the length of the pitch to aid his friend and assist in his recovery.

“Simon is an example for all of us,” Hjulmand said of the AC Milan player.

A team to be proud of

Danish federation chief Peter Moller also spoke and praised the players’ response so far and declared himself “proud” of them.

“I think this team has won the hearts of all Danes,” said Moller.
