Liverpool’s title hopes this season suffered a setback as they fell to Brentford in the English Premier League game at Gtech Community Stadium on Monday.
The Bees beat Liverpool 3-1, revenge for the 3-0 defeat they suffered to Liverpool earlier in the season at Anfield.
The Reds were punished for awful defending as Ibrahima Konate’s own goal in the 19th minute gave Brentford the lead.
The Bees doubled their lead courtesy of a 42nd-minute goal by Yoane Wissa.
Liverpool went two goals behind Brentford into the first half break. But returned into the second half looking stronger.
In the 50th minute, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain pulled one for Liverpool with a header, restoring the hope of a possible comeback.
The Reds were pressing hard in search of an equaliser when Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo beat Konate to the ball, firing in Brentford’s third goal in the 84th minute, ruining all hope of a comeback for Liverpool.
With 28 points in 16 games, The Reds are sixth on the EPL log, while Brentford is 10th on the log with 23 points in 17 games.
