In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the singer said he contacted Jay-Z and sent him the song but the rapper replied, saying the song doesn’t need a rap verse.

“We were in touch, I sent him the song, and he said, I don’t think the song needs a rap verse,” Ed Sheeran said.

The 32-year-old also admitted that Jay-Z was right as he hailed the rapper for “having a good ear.”

He also described the rejection as a “respectful pass”.

“He was probably right. He’s got a very, very good ear. He usually gets things right. It was a very natural, respectful pass,” he added.

‘Shape of You’ went diamond in the United States and topped the Billboard Hot 100 Chart for 12 weeks throughout 2017.

The singer later featured Stormzy, the British rapper, in the official remix of the track.

He also enlisted Zion and Lennox, the reggaeton music duo, for a Latin version.

Ed Sheeran began recording music at the age of 13 and independently released his first collection of work, titled ‘Spinning Man’.

He released his debut album ‘Plus’ in 2011 and has since continued to receive several recognitions and accolades in the music industry.

Ed Sheeran is a four-time Grammy winner.

He is set to release his 5th album titled ‘Subtract’ on May 5, through Asylum Records and Atlantic Records.
