Destroy Lonely Confirms Loyalty to Opium Records, Opens Up About Role in Playboi Carti’s “MUSIC”

During an interview with DOTWAVNOTWAVE after his standout performance at London’s OVO Arena Wembley, Destroy Lonely expressed his gratitude for Carti’s support, calling the whole experience “amazing.” He shared: “Carti f**king changed my life, and Ken was right there with me through it. These folks are my family…I don’t really see myself ever being anywhere else but with them.” The artist also highlighted his brotherly relationship with Ken Carson and Homixide Gang, with whom he shares tracks like “Murda Musik,” “VETERAN,” and “THRILL.”

It’s no secret that Opium Records has faced some struggles in recent years, particularly after their “Antagonist Tour” was indefinitely postponed in late 2023. Adding to the tension, Carti’s much-anticipated album MUSIC (released in 2025) sparked criticism for not featuring his signees. Fans were eager to see the label’s talent showcased on such a high-profile record, yet, Destroy Lonely’s involvement in MUSIC goes deeper than most realize.

Destroy Lonely’s Hidden Hand in “MUSIC” While Destroy Lonely isn’t formally credited on MUSIC, he revealed that he was actively involved in the album’s creation. He shared that he heard and provided feedback on several tracks, including *“JUMPIN’” with Lil Uzi Vert—a song that, according to Lonely, is “probably two years old.”

“I really appreciate this album because I felt like I was a part of it,” he said. He recalled moments when Carti personally called him to ask for his opinion on certain songs, making it clear that he had a hand in shaping the final product. Though he acknowledged he wasn’t the only one Carti reached out to, it was the fact that Carti asked for his input that made him feel integral to the project.

It’s clear that Destroy Lonely’s loyalty to Opium Records, and to Playboi Carti specifically, remains unwavering, as he continues to grow as both an artist and a member of this influential collective. Even without being at the forefront of every release, his impact behind the scenes is undeniable.
