Brighton forward Danny Welbeck has revealed his best-ever strike partner, surprisingly overlooking former Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo. Instead, the ex-Arsenal star named Alexis Sánchez as his most effective attacking partner.
Welbeck, who began his career at Manchester United, shared the dressing room with Ronaldo during the 2008/09 season but admitted he didn’t play many games alongside the Portuguese superstar.
Why Not Ronaldo?
Speaking to Sky Sports, Welbeck reflected on his early United days:
“Actually when I was first in the dressing room, I was in the corner between Ronaldo and Ryan Giggs. I was a 17-year-old, and that’s who I sat between. It was amazing to see. Ronaldo would arrive early, leave late, and was just special.”
Despite this, Welbeck chose Dimitar Berbatov as another standout partner, praising the Bulgarian’s understated brilliance:
“Berbatov had special qualities. What he could produce was out of this world, but I don’t think he gets the recognition he deserves.”
The Ultimate Pick: Alexis Sánchez
Welbeck, who played for Arsenal between 2014 and 2019, ultimately named Alexis Sánchez as his most effective attacking partner:
“I’m going to go for Sánchez. I played a lot of games with him, and we had a really good connection. He could spot runs, find me, and come again. We just had a really good link-up.”
The Brighton veteran will be back in action as the Seagulls face Fulham in a Premier League clash this Saturday.
