Cristiano Ronaldo to help wildfire victims in Madeira

Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has offered to contribute financial aid to help the victims of the wildfires that have been devastating his native Madeira, with the forward calling the head of the regional government Miguel Albuquerque to pledge his support.

There is speculation that the blaze, which started outside the capital, may have been started intentionally and the wind has seen it spread rapidly.

Three people have died so far and and more than 300 have been injured, and it now threatens the historic districts of Funchal.The national government in Lisbon said on Tuesday that they would be assisting their regional counterparts.
